Menswear Cat Fight

Below: Giorgio Armani Fall 08, left, and Dolce & Gabbana Fall 09, right
WWD reports today:

Giorgio Armani is also hardly shy about defending the originality of his designs. On Monday, he took a swing at Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, accusing the designers of copying his quilted pants from fall 2008 and putting them on the Dolce & Gabbana runway for fall 2009.

"For now they copy, later on they will learn," Armani said after his Emporio show on Sunday.

Dolce and Gabbana struck back, saying, "Stylistically speaking, the Armani style is not, and never has been, an inspiration source of us. We made our fortune by creating a Dolce & Gabbana style which is strongly tied to Sicily and its traditions, as well as to the world of tailoring: a style which is globally recognized," the designers continued. "Surely we still have much to learn, but definitely not from him."

Meeeow!

As much as I support creative diversity and intellectual property, I don't think Armani can "claim" quilted pants, but you can judge for yourself. (Below: Giorgio Armani Fall 08, left, and Dolce & Gabbana Fall 09, right)

Conchords Answer Your Love Qs in Bust

Just when I was saying I don't blog on guy's fashion, I remember how much I love the kiwi-meets-big apple stylings of Bret and Jemaine from Flight of the Conchords. Jemaine's big sideburns and 70's folk meets brotha-man look is made for NYC. And Bret's wayward curls and animal print shirts make all the girls gaga. If you're thinking, "you must be off your meds, only girls like Flight of the Conchords." My answer is: Exactly.

Exciting news just in from Bust Mag:

Bret and Jemaine will be answering your questions about love in BUST’s April/May issue. Send your love questions to askaconchord@bust.com by Sunday, January 25. The doctors are in!

Capsule Men's Indie Fashion

Here at Fashion Playlist, we love and support indie style, from designers to boutiques to creatives like make-up and hair stylists, and all the amazing fashion bloggers that let us know what's hip and happening around the world.

We're guilty of focusing on women's fashion, and they guys are always like, "dude, that's cool but where can I find indie guys stuff?" Enter Capsule, the fashion event that brings "the world's most directional independent menswear designs, super premium streetwear and lifestyle brands together under one roof." Giddyup.

The next event will take place in NYC this inauguration eve and day (Jan. 19 & 20 for those not politically inclined) in the amazing neo-gothic Angel Orensanz Foundation Center for the Arts on the Lower East Side.

You can see a list of the emerging designers chosen by an uber-experienced board of advisors (from owners of cool boutiques like Seven New York to GQ fashion editors). Not sure why they included Nike, maybe they have some cool capsule collection.
